For Pioneer Research, Bohacz was the architect of several families of Disk Drive manufacturing Test Systems. These systems were used to automate acceptance testing of disk drives in a factory environment and for problem diagnosis in high volume repair sites. Bohacz's architectural design included both hardware and software.
The systems were completely user modifiable and extendible, and included a
sophisticated built-in programming language used to build test scenarios. Beneath the user
interface and test engine, Bohacz designed a custom networked Operating System (OS) to run the product. This
custom OS included a built in "high speed test" control and data collection API set.
These systems performed very high speed test sequencing and data capture. Typical
asynchronous events measured in the sub 33nS range. Coding was 90,000 lines of
"C" and assembler, Motorola 68xxxx base for the newest product family. Older
tester families were Intel 80xxxx (embedded). The customers for these products include the
telecommunications and disk drive manufacturing industries.
